LSU Football: Tigers Hosting Key Transfer Portal Cornerback for Visit
USA TODAY Sports

Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers have shown their desire to reach out to Louisiana players in the NCAA Transfer Portal. On Wednesday, another Bayou State native entered the free agent market in Mississippi State's Decamerion Richardson.

The Bossier City product spent four seasons in Starkville and will exercise his COVID year for a final season of eligibility.

A cornerback who has received significant interest, Richardson is at the top of LSU's Transfer Portal Target List.

Now, he's in Baton Rouge for a multi-day stay after arriving on Saturday. Richardson is fresh off of a visit to Oregon with the Bayou Bengals now getting a crack at the veteran defensive back.

Richardson appeared in 45 games at Mississippi State, making 26 starts as one of the SEC West’s top cornerbacks. He tallied 177 tackles through four seasons with a sack, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and 10 passes broken up.

It's no secret LSU is pursuing several defensive backs in the Transfer Portal. After securing a commitment from former Texas A&M safety Jardin Gilbert on Friday, there remains work to be done and the LSU coaching staff is getting it done behind the scenes.

A look into the newest Tiger and an Ohio State product LSU is pushing for:

The Commitment: Jardin Gilbert

The Louisiana native, and former U-High standout, returns home to suit up in the purple and gold with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

A 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, Gilbert attains the size this program is looking for as they push for more defensive backs via the portal.

In 2023, Gilbert entered the season as a starter at Texas A&M, but had his junior campaign cut short after suffering a shoulder injury after just two games. In two games played, he totaled five tackles, a pass breakup and was in on a tackle for loss.

After 23 games in College Station, the prized safety was prepared for a change of scenery with the LSU Tigers making the call.

Now, the Louisiana native returns home with the chance to represent the Bayou Bengals to cap off his college career.

The Target: Jyaire Brown

Brown, a Louisiana native, entered the Transfer Portal with three years of eligibility remaining after spending time at Ohio State. The former four-star cornerback has received interest from several SEC programs with the Tigers certainly getting in the mix as well.

An official LSU offer hasn't been reported yet by Brown, but Kelly has harped on the importance of pursuing Louisiana natives in the portal with multiple years of eligibility.

For Brown, he checks both boxes. During his two seasons with Ohio State, he totaled nine tackles and three defended passes with the chance to take that next step with more playing time. Look for the former Top 250 prospect to become a hot commodity in the market with LSU entering the mix.
