Mississippi State Loses Former Freshman All-American Wide Receiver To The Transfer Portal
Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are coming off a rough 2023 season. They went undefeated in nonconference play but then went 1-7 in the SEC to finish 5-7 overall. Now, they are dealing with what so many other programs are dealing with, the transfer portal. Former Freshman All-American wide receiver Zavion Thomas announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Mississippi State WR Zavion Thomas Enters Transfer Portal

Thomas had a solid season in 2023. He had 40 receptions for 503 yards and one touchdown. What was more impressive was his 12.6 yards per catch. Thomas is an explosive receiver that can pick up big chunks of yards when needed. He will enter the portal with two years remaining on his eligibility and should be a great target for a program looking for a young promising receiver.

SEC Getting Tougher

Things won’t get easier for the Bulldogs in 2024. Texas and Oklahoma come to the SEC conference in 2024. These two teams have been battling it out in the Big 12 and now will be added to the mix in the SEC. The good news for the Bulldogs is the transfer portal also gives the opportunity to replenish talent in a way that couldn’t be done in past years. No doubt the Bulldogs coaching staff is busy trying to improve the roster drastically for 2024.

2024 is going to be an interesting year in college football. There are a lot of changes in conferences and the College Football Playoff. Hopefully, the Bulldogs can revamp the roster and become relevant in the SEC yet again.
