Browns CB Denzel Ward makes a bold statement on a key part of the team that helps them win
Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns’ defense was a very good unit in 2023 in Jim Schwartz’s first season on the job.

The defense gelled as a whole and one important part of it was the defensive backfield, where the Browns have both talent and experience.

On Tuesday, Pro Bowl CB Denzel Ward made a bold statement on the Browns cornerback trip that he full-heartedly believes in.

Cleveland will have their cornerback unit of Ward, Martin Emerson Jr., and Greg Newsome II back together again in 2024. One of the league’s best tandems that is still on the younger side. Ward is the veteran in the group with Newsome entering year No. 4 and it being year No. 3 for Emerson.

With it just now being within the voluntary training program, the group is just now getting ramped up.

“So, I mean, that’s what we’re doing now, putting that work in to go out and show why we’re the best group. And so that’s all it is. It’s just getting to the work and going out there and showing that. But I definitely feel we’re the best, though,” Ward said.

In 2023, Ward was named to his third Pro Bowl. Emerson was just on the outside looking in, as he had himself a nice year with four interceptions.

Cleveland has an attacking defensive front that often leads to their defensive backfired being set in a good position. That’ll be once again the idea in the 2024 season.
